If you need a new movie to watch or have read the thriller The Woman in Cabin 10, Netflix just released the film. I still prefer the book, but the cruise visuals and shots of Norway, Scotland, and the Dorset Coast are stunning. I’m so happy the filming locations have been shared, so I can plan my own trip and pretend I’m a sleuth on a mystery cruise.
In today’s edition:
Southwest’s 2026 summer routes have been revealed
The biggest travel trends that will define 2026

Southwest Expands Routes with New Summer 2026 Destinations
|
Winter might feel like it’s just getting started, but Southwest Airlines has already begun planning summer 2026 travel. From California coastlines to Mexican beaches,
the airline has announced new routes and increased flights on its most popular paths, making it harder to stay home next year. Who’s complaining, though?
✈️ What are the new routes?
Starting June 4, 2026, Southwest is debuting a new route from Boston to San Diego, giving East Coasters an easy excuse to see more of California’s coast. They are also planning daily flights between Austin and Cincinnati, though the start date is still uncertain. If Mexico is more your vibe, Southwest is launching brand-new service from Las Vegas to Cancun on the same day, the only nonstop between the two cities, along with new flights from Vegas to Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.
On top of that, Southwest is adding more flights on popular routes from Las Vegas, Orlando, and Austin, and California travelers get extra options with more flights from L.A. to Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Jose. The big news is that Southwest is heading north for the first time with daily flights to Anchorage starting May 15, 2026, connecting Alaska with Denver and Las Vegas throughout the summer.
Southwest is definitely expanding and adding more places to go, which I’m all for, but some of the other changes are a bit of a headache. Free checked bags are gone, assigned seating is coming (this I don’t mind), and the new policy for plus-size travelers is going to raise some eyebrows. All in all, these new routes make me excited to start planning trips, even if the booking process might be a little more annoying than usual.

Travel Trends to Watch Next Year
|
The way every year continues to fly by genuinely concerns me. How am I already mentioning travel trends for 2026? This new year is going to change the face of travel big time. Skyscanner reports that people are becoming increasingly concerned with what they want to get out of a vacation and are adjusting their booking habits.
🛒 Shelf discovery
Travelers are skipping restaurants and heading to local supermarkets and vending machines for a different type of food tourism. 55% of US travelers are already grabbing snacks and drinks to feel more like a local in new places. It’s actually the first thing I do on trips. I head to the corner store to stock up on cool snacks and drinks to stock my hotel room.
🏔️ Altitude shift
Mountain getaways are still of interest. 80% of travelers are planning mountain trips next year, with “mountain view” bookings up 103% as people look for clean air, quiet environments, and stunning scenery.
💌 Catching flights and feelings
Trips for connections, not just sightseeing, are becoming more sought out. More than half of travelers (53%) are heading abroad specifically to meet new people, make friends, or even find a date. It’s not just sightseeing anymore. People want to meet locals and form genuine connections, maybe even lifelong friendships.
🏨 Destination check-in
Hotels are the main event. 56% choose a destination just for the stay, and 70% of Millennials are all in. A hotel stay can make or break the whole trip. Hotel bookings through the “unique stay” filter are up 60% from last year.

Tuscany’s Offering Cash to New Neighbors
|
Italy has long tried to convince us to move into its $1 homes in remote villages that need restoration and liveliness. Now a Tuscan village, the medieval town of Radicondoli, is welcoming new residents, paying up to $23,000 to relocate and buy a home. You can’t see it, but I’m typing this and nodding my head like yep, that sounds doable.
Radicondoli is a charming village with over a thousand years of history, old churches, palaces, and a tradition of wool working and olive oil production. The town’s first housing program in 2023, offering up to $23,000 plus a $7,000 bonus to anyone buying property. So far, 60 new residents have joined, and the population has grown from 900 to 960. This year, Radicondoli and the nearby town, Belforte, have relaunched the program to boost the local economy, improve the quality of life, and attract young people to the community to liven up the place.
What are the incentives?
🏠 Homebuyer grants: First-time buyers can get up to $23,000 toward a property purchase if they register as residents.
🏘️ Charming homes: Houses range from around $58,000–$116,000, with some needing renovations.
💼 Business subsidies: Up to 50% of eligible expenses, or $5,000, to revitalize businesses for at least three years.
🏢 Rent support: Covering up to 80% of rent for two years for young people moving out or newcomers hoping to try out living in Radicondoli and Belforte. A great option for remote workers!
🛠️ Landlord grants: Help for property owners to renovate homes and welcome tenants.
Mayor Francesco Guarguaglini said Radicondoli’s population started shrinking in the 1950s as people moved to cities. The town now hopes to add 1,000 new residents. Anyone legally living in Italy, whether Italian, EU, or non-EU, can apply, though some perks have rules like the first-home grant, which requires living in the village for at least ten years and owning no more than one other property.
You can apply for the WivoaRadicondoli 3.0 housing program by visiting the official site, where you’ll find the application form and full guidelines.
