Waymo costs more than Uber or Lyft, but people still swear by it. I haven’t tried it yet. It’s expanding fast across the States, but the whole “no one at the wheel” thing still doesn’t sit right with me. I’m all for tech, but I also like knowing there’s a human at the wheel to make a quick call in case anything comes out of left field. Here’s why more people prefer it.

In today’s edition:

  • How cancelled trips are turning into cheap travel deals for strangers

  • FOMO doesn’t stand a chance with JetBlue’s “Summerize” flash flight sale

  • Chicago and Hong Kong will soon be just a Delta flight from LAX

Buckle up,

Kaylen

The Surprising Trend of Buying Strangers’ Canceled Vacations

What the hell. I know that’s what you’re probably thinking, reading that headline. Honestly, same here. I didn’t expect buying someone else’s canceled vacation to be a thing.

Non-refundable trips can cost a fortune if you have to cancel, but there’s a new way to get deals by buying someone else’s canceled vacation. When people can’t go due to emergencies or last-minute changes, sites like SpareFare and Roomer let them sell their bookings to travelers. You can get flights, hotels, or packages for 20–30% off. While these sites have been around for a while, they are gaining popularity with travelers looking to save in this economy.

💸 Okay, now how does this work?

On SpareFare, people who can’t use their non-refundable trips list them for sale, and travelers can buy them at a discount. The site takes a 12% cut and holds the money until after the trip to keep things safe. It’s great if you’re flexible and spontaneous. One traveler got a week in Thailand for $1,200 instead of $4,700.

It’s a pretty cool way to grab cheap vacations and save big bucks. For these sites, you can sign up, browse canceled trips, and buy what fits your schedule. If you don’t mind a last-minute vacation and aren’t too picky on exact dates or details, this could really work for you. Always make sure to double-check everything before booking, since not all trips are transferable. These sites hold payments in escrow to protect buyers and sellers, but availability can be limited.

JetBlue’s Huge Summer Sale Is a Can’t-Miss

JetBlue’s giving us a solid excuse to squeeze in one more summer trip with its Just to Summerize sale with one-way flights as low as $29 (wow) to Puerto Rico, Mexico, Orlando, and more. Today is the last day to book, and the travel window is from August 2 to 27. Perfect timing as I have a few stops to make around the States before summer ends.

✈️ Discounted one-way fares:

  • New York (JFK) to Manchester, New Hampshire (MHT): $29

  • Boston, Massachusetts (BOS) to Jacksonville, Florida (JAX): $49

  • New York (JFK) to Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL): $59

  • New York (JFK) to Orlando, Florida (MCO): $59

  • Boston, Massachusetts (BOS) to Savannah, Georgia (SAV): $59

  • Washington, DC (DCA) to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts (MVY): $94

  • Los Angeles, California (LAX) to Buffalo, New York (BUF): $99

  • Los Angeles, California (LAX) to Fort Lauderdale, Florida (FLL): $114

The sale skips Fridays and Sundays, so don’t expect deals on weekend travel. The lowest fares pop up on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, all under JetBlue’s Blue Basic tier (just a personal item and carry-on, no frills). It’s ideal for flexible travelers who can jet off midweek. See all the routes on sale and book your flight ASAP before the day ends.

New Delta Flights to Chicago and Hong Kong From LAX

Just earlier this week, I was booking a round-trip to Chicago and thinking to myself how few flights there are at optimal times to Chicago. Good news for me and you all is that starting next June, Delta is jumping into the Los Angeles–Chicago market with three daily flights to O’Hare on Boeing 737-800s. It will also begin flying nonstop from LAX to Hong Kong, which I can’t wait for!

Right now, United, American, Frontier, and Spirit handle the LAX to Chicago route, with United and American dominating since they have hubs in both cities. Even though Delta doesn’t have a Chicago hub, it’s the biggest player at LAX, with nearly 300 daily flights, just edging out United and American.

Starting June 6, 2026, Delta will begin daily LAX to Hong Kong flights using their fancy Airbus A350-900s, which have business, premium economy, and regular economy seats. Delta is stepping into big competition, going head-to-head with United and Cathay Pacific, so hopefully this means better prices and service. Crossing my fingers for all of us. Either way, this is great news for travelers looking for more options when booking.
