You’ve Probably Mindlessly Searched for This Travel Scam |

I know, I know, it feels like every day there is a new travel scam to be aware of. Luckily, this one will be easy to avoid, even though we’ve all probably done it.
If you’ve ever Googled an airline’s customer service number or online chat, you put yourself at risk for a scam. I am almost 100 percent certain that I’ve done this without thinking.
Well, scammers are now setting up fake sites, so when you go to contact a customer service agent after your flight has been canceled or delayed, you could accidentally happen upon a fake site that’s taking your info.
🧑💻 Luckily, there is an easy solution
There are a few ways to make sure a site is legit. Check the URL and make sure everything is spelled correctly. Also, make sure that the URL begins with “HTTPS.” That “S” is important as it stands for secure.
But, perhaps the best way to make sure you’re contacting a legitimate customer service number is to do so through the airline’s app. That is the most accurate way to know you’re reaching the correct people, and there is usually a quick chat button as well.
As annoying as it is to have a separate app for every airline, the app can be helpful with a lot more than just customer service. Airline apps are getting better and better at providing the quickest updates on delays, offering in-app food purchases, and helping travelers get upgraded seats.
I can speak from first-hand experience that the customer service chat on the app was way more helpful to me than the airport desk when I had a flight delayed going out to Boston. They were quicker to help me, and the wait online is usually shorter than in person.
