One thing I really appreciate about Google is that they are constantly looking for ways to improve products and to answer my silly little questions faster. Now, Google is introducing Ask Maps to help answer real-world questions about your destination.
πΊοΈ What is Ask Maps?
The new feature is a conversational experience in Maps. So now, according to Google, you can ask things like: βMy phone is dying β where can I charge it without having to wait in a long line for coffee?β Or βIs there a public tennis court with lights on that I can play at tonight?β
In the context of trip planning, this is a great feature, especially for road trips. For example, if you were planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, you could simply ask, "Iβm headed to the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Coral Dunes β any recommended stops along the way?" Ask Maps will get you better ETAs, clearer directions, help you find hidden hiking trails, or find out about pit stops with free entry. All you have to do is click the βAsk Mapsβ button.

Providing even more personalized results
Maps is also making results more personalized when it comes to trip planning. It will recommend things based on places youβve saved or searched for. For instance, if you and a friend are looking for a restaurant to meet at that is halfway between you, and Google knows you like vegan spots, it will recommend vegan options in a convenient neighborhood.
My only concern about this update is that it could potentially mean that the algorithm isnβt introducing you to new experiences or flavors if itβs only relying on what you like. But, if you have a wide palette, perhaps it will recommend a wide array of options.
In addition to the new features above, Maps is also getting a visual update with immersive maps that make navigating a little clearer and give you a broader view of your drive. Take a look for yourself.
